“Jew Or Dog?” is the sort of pop quiz that one might expect from, say, Ali Khamenei. It in fact comes from Lena Dunham, writing in The New Yorker. She offers up a selection of familiar and tired stereotypes (“He expects to be waited on hand and foot by the women in his life, and anything less than that makes him whiny and distant”) asking readers to guess whether she is talking about her dog or her Jewish boyfriend. “He doesn’t tip,” ho-ho.
Accusations of anti-Semitism have followed, unsurprisingly.
Lena Dunham has a Jewish mother and has described herself as a “Jewish woman.” I am not entirely comfortable describing a Jew as an anti-Semite.
But I assume we all can agree that she’s a vulgar dope.
