After less than three years as its executive editor, Jill Abramson will be leaving the New York Times, according to reports. Publisher Arthur Sulzberger told the newspaper’s staff that Abramson’s departure is due to “an issue with management in the newsroom.”
“I choose to appoint a new leader for our newsroom because I believe that new leadership will improve some aspects of the management of the newsroom,” he said. “This is not about any disagreement between the newsroom and the business side.”
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the situation tell Politico’s Dylan Byers that Abramson was fired.
Abramson, who became the first woman to fill the position at the newspaper, will be replaced by managing editor Dean Baquet.
