Governor Bobby Jindal is “extremely disappointed” in Republican members of Congress for not using the power of the purse to stop President Obama’s recent executive action on immigration.
During an interview on Laura Ingraham’s radio show on Friday, the Louisiana Republican and potential 2016 hopeful encouraged his state’s delegation, as well as others, to be willing to move forward with that strategy if need be. “I’ve said this publicly and will absolutely continue to say it: We need to use every tool we can in Congress — as well as the state level — to force the president to follow the Constitution, absolutely,” he said.
“Sometimes, we don’t have the courage of our convictions and our principles,” Jindal added, and warned the GOP about potentially being considered just “a cheaper version of the Democratic party.”
In an appearance on Meet the Press last month, Jindal said that the blame would rest squarely on President Obama, not Republicans, if the federal government shut down as a result of the president’s then-anticipated executive orders, arguing that Obama’s actions were unconstitutional and against the law. In that appearance, he also emphasized that Republicans should do “everything they can” to prevent the president’s actions from moving forward.
