Job Opening: New Global Jihad Leader Wanted

With the killing of Osama bin Laden, we return to the age old question of which came first, the chicken or the egg — or, in our context, which came first, the jihadist or the jihadist vision? The ideologue or the ideology? Did Osama “create” the ideology of jihad, or did the ancient ideology of jihad create him — and countless like him, past, present, and future?

Years ago, Ayman al-Zawahiri, now al-Qaeda’s undisputed leader, placed it all in context when he was asked about the status of bin Laden and the Taliban’s Mullah Omar. He confidently replied: “Jihad in the path of Allah is greater than any individual or organization. It is a struggle between Truth and Falsehood, until Allah Almighty inherits the earth and those who live in it. Mullah Muhammad Omar and Sheikh Osama bin Laden — may Allah protect them from all evil — are merely two soldiers of Islam in the journey of jihad, while the struggle between Truth [Islam] and Falsehood [non-Islam] transcends time” (The Al Qaeda Reader, p.182).

In short, bin Laden’s death, while intrinsically good, has no instrumental value against the jihad — a phenomenon that “transcends time” and “is greater than any individual.”

The Trump Steamroller

As we settle into high summer and the period of maximum difficulty in finding anything to fill in hours of television news, especially 24/7 news television, two well-established political trends are emerging in this pre-electoral period: The president’s opponents continue to dig themselves into foxholes that ... Trump and the ‘Racist Tweets’

What does “racist” even mean anymore? Racism is the headline on President Trump’s Sunday tweets -- the media-Democrat complex assiduously describes them as “racist tweets” as if that were a fact rather than a trope. I don’t think they were racist; I think they were abjectly stupid. Like many ... Read More

How Beto Made Himself into White-Privilege Guy

Robert Francis O’Rourke is white. If it’s any consolation, he’s very sorry about that. “Beto” has been running from his Irish ancestry for some time now. Long before the Left fell headlong into the logical termini of its triune fascination with race, power, and privilege, O’Rourke sensed that there ... Read More
