Peggy Noonan wrote recently: “Some say stopping illegal immigration will lead to an increase in wages for low-income workers. This is to be desired. Let’s find out if it happens.”
Well, we now have yet another data point suggesting that it does, in fact, happen. In the south Georgia town of Stillmore, the newfound vigilance in hiring on the part of the local chicken plant, plus a single immigration raid, has resulted in higher starting wages, increased employment of black Americans, probationers, and homeless men, and a steep drop in the town’s illegal-alien population.
Create two, three, many Stillmores!
