I tend to agree with Red State’s take on the resignation of Randall Tobias, Deputy Secretary of State. When your government career self-detonates, it’s best to stick to the old line about resigning in order to spend more time with your family rather than resigning in order to spend more time with a brand new escort service:
Mr Tobias claims that no sex was involved, and that he is now using another firm that uses “Central Americans”. This is an impressive answer, inasmuch as it pretty much torpedoes any chance of sympathy from either side: the Left won’t believe that he wasn’t having sex, and the Right won’t believe that Tobias checked his new service providers for green cards.
On the other hand, if State Department officials have to get rolled over by dodgy foreigners, at least Mr Tobias did it on his own dime.
