A Word of Praise for John McWhorter

This is the sort of thing that shouldn’t need to be written, but does. One of my great frustrations with the current state of American political debate is that it is difficult to find people on the other side with whom a discussion is even possible. Instead, we have a choice between intellectually dishonest writers such as Jonathan Chait and his ilk and people whose occupation in life is to shout “Racist!” whenever the Left finds that accusation useful. Against that background, I note with some gratitude the contribution of John McWhorter on the Antonin Scalia/affirmative action controversy. Professor McWhorter, a liberal academic and no Scalia admirer, does the justice and the public the courtesy of simply telling the truth about the actual question at issue.

The unhappy fact is that this is rare enough to bear noting. I recommend his column.
