I used to get pissed off at JW-scored films for his blatant rip-offs of
Hindemith, Mahler, Stravinsky, Strauss, et al. But I’m over that. I
figure, if you’re going to steal someone’s music, why not steal from
the masters. Then I saw the first Harry Potter movie. The wanker ripped
himself off! The leitmotif from Schindler’s List appears, albeit in
triple meter, as the theme in The Sorcerer’s Stone! How brazen! John
Williams is either the laziest Hollywood composer or the most
brilliant, since not only did he get paid for some other guy’s work,
but now he’s getting paid again for stuff he wrote 10 years ago.
