Jon Stewart Mocks Obama for Ambassador Picks

President Obama’s nominees for various ambassadorships haven’t fared too well in their confirmation hearings, and Jon Stewart noticed. The Daily Show host took jabs at Democrats for “corruption” in awarding the posts to individuals for political reasons.

After top fundraisers were picked to serve in Argentina, Iceland, and Norway even though they had never been to the respective countries, Stewart asked, “Is there a rule that ambassadors can’t have set foot in the country they’re going to ambassador? Would it ruin the surprise?” As it turns out, each of them helped raise at least $500,000 for the Obama campaign.

Meanwhile, recently confirmed U.S. ambassador to China Max Baucus, who stepped down as Montana senator and allowed Democrats to nominate a replacement to increase the odds of holding the open seat in this year’s midterms, didn’t impress Stewart either by admitting he was “no real expert” on the country.
