The impressive Republican Senate nominee, the state’s 34-year-old conservative state treasurer, has seen some very good poll numbers of late. Yesterday’s Columbus Dispatch released a poll of 1,758 likely Buckeye State voters that shows Mandell in a 44 to 44 percent tie with the liberal Democrat incumbent, Sherrod Brown. That’s backed up by a new University of Cincinnati survey (of 847 likely voters) that has the race at 48 percent for Brown to 47 percent for Mandel, essentially a toss up. And even Quinnipiac’s poll from last week shows Brown’s prior lead of twelve points shrinking to seven (48 to 41 percent), while Mandel is now leading among independents. Across the board, his numbers are moving, and that is very good news indeed for the Republican hopeful.
