Judge Merchan Schedules Trump Sentencing Four Days Before GOP Convention

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, now a convicted felon, will face sentencing July 11. That’s just four days before the party is set to formally convene in Milwaukee for this summer’s Republican National Convention.

As Dan wrote earlier this week, we’re in uncharted territory here. Presidential politics aside, you can bet your bottom dollar that vulnerable Republican incumbents and first-time candidates are privately dreading spending the next few months fielding questions from reporters about how they can bear to share a ballot with a convicted felon.

Talk about a historic news development right after Memorial Day, when many tuned-out voters are starting to pay more attention to the 2024 election.
