Judicial Matters

As expected, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved two long-delayed Bush judicial nominees yesterday — Michael McConnell and Dennis Shedd. Both were approved by a voice vote, despite opposition from liberal interest groups and strong denunciations of Shedd from members of the Judiciary Committee (including outgoing Chairman Leahy). There was no vote on Miguel Estrada, however. The full Senate also took a step forward last night, approving several district court nominees and John Rogers for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
