The Corner

June 14, 1941

The first systematic mass deportations of Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians from their Soviet-occupied homelands took place in mid-June 1941, many of them on June 14, the date now most associated with this particular atrocity.

I went to an exhibition in Tallinn commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the deportations from Estonia  in 2001 and wrote about it here, but, judging from this trailer at least, In The Crosswind, an Estonian film that I saw mentioned today on Twitter, is infinitely more eloquent.

Vladimir Putin has had some difficulties with accepting the reality of what the Soviets did in the Baltic States. Perhaps the makers of the film could send a copy to the Kremlin.
