Justice for the CIA Operations Directorate

As shown by this report from the LATimes and this analysis from Captain Ed Morrissey, things are getting hot in the controversy over the CIA’s destruction of interrogation tapes (which I’ve previously discussed, here, and NRO has editorialized on here).

That’s why most welcome this morning is the WSJ op-ed by brothers Rivkin & Casey regarding Attorney General Mukasey’s appropriate decision to put the criminal investigation in the hands of an experienced Justice Department prosecutor, not a special prosecutor.  With Congress fully back in town next week, expect more politicized calls for an independent counsel.  It would be a terrible mistake.  Let DOJ do its job.
