In Praise of Two Candidates (Who Are Not Mine)

Before the mood passes, I’d like to pay tribute to two debaters last night: John Kasich and Rand Paul. In several articles, I’ve read that Kasich’s words won’t endear him to the Republican primary electorate. That makes me think all the better of Kasich: He evidently said what he thought.

Same with Paul. I disagree with him profoundly on foreign policy and national security. But I feel that he is not fudging his views — that he is giving them to us straight. Not mainstreaming them for electoral purposes.

Give me an honest politician, I say, who will simply say what he thinks, while letting the voters choose for themselves! I hope that Kasich is not the nominee, and I don’t think I could vote for Paul. But I admire their candor a lot.
