Katie Couric Profiles War Reporter As Brian Williams Squirms

With NBC’s Brian Williams on the ropes for lying about being shot down by an RPG while flying in a helicopter during a trip to Iraq, Yahoo’s Katie Couric published a profile of a reporter who survived harrowing war-zone experiences in the Middle East.

Couric interviewed Lynsey Addario, author of Portraits of War, a book about her experiences as a photojournalist.

“Addario came of age as a photographer in the years after 9/11,” Couric writes.

She traveled throughout the Middle East as the “war on terror” raged on. She was kidnapped in Iraq, and dodged bullets in the mountains of Afghanistan. She survived a harrowing car wreck that killed her driver. In 2011, while covering the Libyan uprising, she was captured along with three colleagues from The New York Times. They were bound, beaten and told they were going to die.

The Addario profile comes as Williams is taking a leave of absence from NBC. “Couric would be happy to step into [Williams’] role,” according to the New York Daily News (citing anonymous sources).
