Keeping the DREAM Alive

Well, someone must be complaining about the DREAM Act amnesty, because Dick Durbin has now filed off some of its more egregious burrs in the latest attempt to get it attached to the defense authorization bill. The new iteration has an age cap, allowing only those under the age of 30 to lie about sneaking into the U.S. before the age of 16. Also, it would eliminate the (never-enforced) provision barring states from offering in-state tuition to illegals, which wouldn’t really matter since the students would be getting green cards in any case, thus qualifying for in-state tuition like any other legal resident. Other than that (and a new number: SA 2919), it seems to be the same amnesty mess as before. It’s not clear whether these minor changes will increase support for the amnesty: the Washington Times story I linked to above has Sen. Cornyn saying it’s not going to survive, but also has Sen. Graham sounding like he could vote for it, despite the fact that Numbers USA’s whip list has him down as a definite No.
