On Meet the Press this morning, David Gregory asked John Kerry what he felt about the fact that the Obama campaign’s playbook for the general election, if Mitt Romney is the nominee, included running a race akin to what George W. Bush did in 2004, painting Kerry as a flip-flopper. Kerry demurred, saying he had not been focused on the GOP primary. But when Gregory asked if Romney had a political core, Kerry ripped into his fellow Massachusetts politician.
“There are few people I’ve met in public life who have changed on as many issues as he has, every major touchstone of American politics, from abortion to guns to war to God to gays, you name it,” he said. “People will make their own judgments about that. I was accused of voting once for one thing and another. I did it as a matter of principle. .. He’s going to have to defend his positions throughout this race if he’s the nominee.”
