Kerry-Edwards Exploiting Reagan

Here’s the official press release from the Kerry campaign:

Ron Reagan to Speak at Democratic National Convention

Kerry-Edwards Vision Appealing to Independents

Washington, D.C. – The Kerry-Edwards campaign announced today that Ron Reagan, son of former President Ronald Reagan, has accepted an invitation to speak at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. An Independent, Reagan’s participation is the latest example of the campaign’s commitment to reaching out to individuals from all parts of the political spectrum.

“Like the American people, Ron Reagan knows that our country can do better than it has under George W. Bush – that if we have responsible leaders who stand up for our values, we can build an America that is stronger at home and respected abroad,” said Kerry-Edwards Campaign Manager Mary Beth Cahill. “His appearance at the Democratic convention also demonstrates the strong appeal of the optimistic Kerry-Edwards vision, and we will continue to reach out to individuals from all political backgrounds as this campaign to build a stronger America continues.”

Underscoring the Kerry-Edwards commitment to never put ideology ahead of sound science, Reagan will speak to the need to make stem cell research a national priority. Today, more than 100 million Americans have illnesses that could one day be cured or treated with stem-cell therapy, and Ron Reagan understands more than anyone that we must lift the barriers that stand in the way of science.
