Secretary of State John Kerry expressed great confidence this morning that Congress will approve President Obama’s request for authorization for the use of military force. “I do not believe Congress will turn its back on this moment,” Kerry told NBC’s David Gregory, echoing the confident assessment he made across other Sunday-morning talk shows.
He cited the “challenge of Iran, the challenges of the region,” the safety of Israel, and the interests of U.S. ally Jordan as issues that congressmen would consider important enough to justify military action.
ABC’s Jonathan Karl reported this morning that a senior Republican member of Congress told him that if the vote were held today, the president’s request would be rejected.
