Charles Krauthammer called the new emails showing White House involvement in briefing U.N. ambassador Susan Rice before she spoke about the Benghazi attacks on the Sunday shows “a serious offense” and “a classic cover-up of a cover-up.”

The government watchdog group Judicial Watch released the new Benghazi e-mails, which reveal that a top White House official encouraged Rice to make the White House look good and play up the role of a YouTube video in causing the attacks.

“We now have the smoking document, which is the White House saying, ‘We’re pushing the video because we don’t want to blame it on the failure of our policies,’ which is what anybody who looked at this assumed all the way through,” Krauthammer said.

Krauthammer explained that President Obama ran his 2012 campaign on killing bin Laden and putting al-Qaeda on the run. The Benghazi attack ”[undermined] the whole narrative,” so the White House had to “invent the video,” he said.

But it’s too late: “The mainstream media will say ‘Oh, it’s so complicated,’ and they are not going to look into this. And without it, it’s going to be quite a struggle,” Krauthammer said.
