La. Debate

An e-mailer:

I don’t want public schools reading Cardinal Schönborn’s tract on creation and evolution, but these issues can’t really be taught divorced from reality.   You write “read,” not “teach as doctrine.”  What is it that makes Cardinal Schonborn uniquely untouchable?  What other thoughts should be banned from our public schools?

That probably could use clarificatrion. The good cardinal needn’t be banned from public schools. “I don’t want public schools to have Cardinal Schönborn as their textbook” would have been more along the lines. But if Baton Rouge wants freshman reading his book as part of some class or activity, that would be ridiculous to consider unconstitutional.
