Larry Hogan Is Wrong about Public Education

On Meet the Press this morning, Larry Hogan addressed the education reforms in Florida and suggested limited-government Republicans shouldn’t be directing what’s taught in the public schools. It’s true that there are free-speech issues around some of the Florida higher-ed initiatives, but this is not a size-of-government question.

Public authorities control public schools. They always have and will. The question is whether the education blob gets to run out of control and impose its political agenda on the schools, or not. If you care about what is being taught to our kids and how, the answer should be “not.”
