Hillarities

1) For years, we’ve pointed to statements by Barack Obama and said, “If George W. Bush had said that …” “If Ronald Reagan had said that …” “If Dan Quayle had said that …” “If Sarah Palin had said that …”

In the event that Hillary Clinton is elected president, we will be saying that for another eight years. Or maybe four, if we get lucky?

Campaigning in Iowa, she said, “Now, I wouldn’t keep any school open that wasn’t doing a better than average job.”

Any one of us might have committed such an error. An easy thing to do. But the Democrats and the Left are so … unforgiving, to put it mildly. Their life is non-stop snorting.

When I was in college, there was a book that was a great hit — a source of much snorting — on the left: Reagan’s Reign of Error. Believe me, such a book could be written about Obama, and others.

2) We are now talking, once more, about Bill Clinton and his women. There was once a Clinton aide named Betsey Wright. She coined the phrase “bimbo eruptions.” That meant that one of Clinton’s women was blabbing. They were supposed to keep their mouths shut.

Do you remember something called JournoList? It was a Republican nightmare come to life. It was confirmation of our paranoid fantasies!

JournoList was a private forum for left-leaning media folk — hundreds of them. They shared ideas, hatched plots, and came up with a line.

Republicans always suspected they did that. And lo …

Anyway, on JournoList, a prominent writer for The Nation wrote, “I am really tired of defending the indefensible. The people who attacked Clinton on Monica were prissy and ridiculous, but let me tell you it was no fun, as a feminist and a woman, waving aside as politically irrelevant and part of the vast rightwing conspiracy Paula, Monica, Kathleen, Juanita.”

I’m sure it was no fun, defending the indefensible. But trust me: They’ll do it again, as often and for as long as necessary.
