Talk radio show host Laura Ingraham wants to debate immigration policy with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the man immigration hawks are increasingly making the face of their argument that President Obama’s preferred policies help big businesses rather than poor people.
“We invite Mark Zuckerberg to join us anytime on The Laura Ingraham Show. I’d love to talk to him in depth about his desperate need for foreign workers,” she said, before encouraging listeners to launch the kind of phone campaign usually reserved for lawmakers.
“Call Facebook and demand that they hire American software engineers, American employees; stop pushing the illegal labor in this country,” Ingraham urged. “Call Facebook make your voices heard.”
Ingraham was picking up where Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.) left off during a speech he gave in response to reports that Zuckerberg had criticized the U.S. immigration system during a trip to Mexico.
“Well, the ‘masters of the universe’ are very fond of open borders as long as these open borders don’t extend to their gated compounds and fenced-off estates,” Sessions said on the Senate floor. “I read in the news that Facebook is now worth more than $200 billion. Is that not enough money to hire American workers for a change? Your company now employs roughly 7,000 people. Let’s say you want to expand your workforce 10 percent, or hire another 700 workers. Are you claiming you can’t find 700 Americans who would take these jobs if you paid a good wage and decent benefits?”
