The Law Professors’ Letter against Kavanaugh

More than 650 law profs have signed a letter opposing Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation on temperament grounds. I don’t think anyone should be especially intimidated by the professional authority of the group, both because it’s a highly politicized field (of the signatories I recognize, nearly all of them were sure to oppose Kavanaugh on ideological grounds) and because the argument they make does not require specialized knowledge.

And that argument is mighty peculiar. “The question at issue was of course painful for anyone. But Judge Kavanaugh exhibited a lack of commitment to judicious inquiry. Instead of being open to the necessary search for accuracy, Judge Kavanaugh was repeatedly aggressive with questioners. . . .”

To be qualified for the Supreme Court, a judge has to bring an open mind to an inquiry about whether he’s a rapist? I don’t care if the letter gets 6,500 signatures, that line is never going to be persuasive.
