Leaders of the West (and Partiers)

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Stephen Harper, the prime minister of Canada, has been palling around with Prime Minister Netanyahu, in Israel — singing songs and so forth. For an article on this camaraderie, and solidarity, go here. This is entirely appropriate, and I’m entirely unsurprised. Over the past several years, I’ve referred to either Harper or Netanyahu as the, or certainly a, “leader of the West.” (For example, see this article about Harper: “Leader of the West.”)

The American presidency, I regret to say, has, in many ways, left a vacancy. Even leading from behind seems too much to ask at this point. (And, of course, he has the cooperation of much of our Right, which wishes to withdraw from the world, in its own way.)
