A Leadership Lesson in Listening

At a press conference on Capitol Hill right now, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, and Haley Barbour are introducing America to a new moment in American history.

Governor Barbour made clear that the election yesterday was a referendum on the president, his agenda, and specifically, Obamacare.

Senator McConnell told reporters: “I think what the American people were saying yesterday is they appreciated us saying ‘no’ to the things they opposed.”

John Boehner, the presumptive Speaker of the House, is all about “listening.” If we listen to what the Americans tell us to do, he says, “we’ll do just fine.” He warmly embraces the tea party with an apparent sense of gratitude: “there are more Americans engaged in our government today than I’ve ever seen in my lifetime.” He encourages people to “stay engaged.”

He walked away promising some “real oversight” in the next Congress.
