Leahy Won’t Delay Liu Hearings, Despite Withholdings

Senate Judiciary Republicans formally called on committee chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy (D., Vt.) to postpone hearings on Prof. Goodwin Liu, a nominee to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, after it came out that Liu failed to disclose 117 items from his record, including material on Liu’s positions on affirmative action, judicial activism, immigration, and “constitutional welfare rights.”

Responding to the request in a press release, Leahy said:

“At the time of Professor Liu’s twice-rescheduled hearing, Committee members will have had more than seven weeks to review the nominee’s record, and two weeks to review the materials submitted to the Committee on April 5,” wrote Leahy.  “I see no reason to further delay this nominee’s opportunity to appear before the Committee and respond to the questions its members may have.”
