Leftist Amnesia

Longtime readers will appreciate how much Mark Hemingway’s piece on I.F. Stone is in my wheelhouse. One irony Mark doesn’t mention: Stone’s defenders strain to make the case that Klehr & Co. haven’t dotted every I and crossed every T (for the record, I find their parsing hilarious). But what they leave out is that Stone’s own standards were incredibly shoddy by comparison, and yet they (and pretty much the entire mainstream media) hold Stone up as a paragon of journalistic integrity. Recall that Stone claimed a massive conspiracy in which the U.S. started the Korean war. Not true, but no one cares because Izzy was on the side of truth and justice.
