Leftist Disinformation about Taxes

We keep hearing demands from the Left that the government crack down on “disinformation” (meaning commentary that disagrees with their views). And yet, those same people never hesitate to pump out disinformation when it helps them win.

A good example is the chatter about the need for higher taxes on the rich because they don’t pay their fair share. In this AIER article, Phil Magness debunks a recent talk by Joe Biden on that. The wealthy are not undertaxed in the U.S. The data are irrefutable. But we hear that claim over and over.

Obviously, the truth doesn’t matter on this. The Left hauls out this rhetorical nonsense simply because it resonates with voters. The federal government is going to spend as much as it wants to anyway; a few billion more from the “rich” doesn’t matter economically. It’s just political manipulation.

The same is true about other kinds of lefty obsessions. Consider gun control. They constantly proclaim their dedication to gun-control laws even though it’s obvious that such laws don’t stop criminals from getting or using guns. The talk is really meant only to influence voters to keep supporting Democrats.
