I’m going to try to keep NRO readers up on what’s happening in key state-legislative races around the country. With as many as 18 Democratic chambers vulnerable to Republican takeovers this year, the stakes are huge: control over congressional redistricting, fiscal policy in a time of massive state budget deficits, the fate of conservative causes such as school choice, property-rights protection, and state-level resistance to Obamacare.
It may take a while to get useful numbers on many of these races. As I am simultaneously doing some election calling for the North Carolina media, I can say at least this much right now: The wave has reached Carolina legislative races. If current trends continue, the GOP will take both houses of the North Carolina general assembly for the first time since the 1890s — and in the state senate, the majority will be a large one.
