Lehrman on Lincoln

Rick Brookhiser, in the item Kathryn links below, recommends Lewis Lehrman’s Lincoln at Peoria, and I would very heartily second that recommendation. There are lots and lots of books about Abraham Lincoln of course. Many are mediocre, with poor analysis and writing made up for by a fascinating subject; and some are just awful, despite the great subject. But there are just a precious few excellent books about Lincoln, and Lehrman’s new one really is one of them. I offered a few more thoughts about it in this review I did for the Weekly Standard in October.
