Less than Instant

I think it was Pat Buchanan who coined the phrase “instant analysis.” I don’t know. I’ll have to go back and check William Safire’s magnificent memoir of Nixon’s first term, Before the Fall. Anyway, “instant analysis” has been with us a long time. And in our tweety world, analysis is more instant than ever.

I was not very instant last night, however. I had a concert to review, and could not watch the debate till after. Then I fumbled a bit with my DVR. (Is this more info than you want?) (Wait’ll you read my Impromptus.) And I could not write my column till this morning.

There was a time, not very long ago, when a next-morning column would have seemed ultra-instant. Now it seems slowwwww. In any event, here is my Impromptus on the Republican presidential debate last night. I know America has been clamoring. (That was a joke, y’all — please.)
