Less Stockman, More Kemp

In confronting a president who is talking about growth and innovation, Republicans need to be wary of neglecting that element in their own agenda. They can’t be all Stockman and no Kemp, especially when jobs are a much more salient public concern than the deficit. Fortunately, Paul Ryan has never been one to insist on austerity for its own sake, but conceives of it as a means of revitalizing the economy. If there’s a natural choice to respond to a president touting government spending as a growth program tonight, it’s Ryan.
