Let’s Kiss and Make Up

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano hosted a White House meeting yesterday, seeking to reassure the pro-amnesty crowd, both right and left, that the administration was still committed to amnesty, despite the president’s statement from Mexico earlier this month that amnesty will have to wait until at least next year. It looks the White House is using her for a good cop/bad cop strategy of managing the open-border groups’ anxiety — she took the heat from them about continuing to enforce the law (without at least pretending to do that, there’s no chance for amnesty passing), while the president made an unscheduled visit, as the good cop, to allow his assembled acolytes to bask in his hopey-changeyness.

One thing struck my funny bone; according to the O.C. Register, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s immigration guy (formerly a lobbyist for MALDEF) said “Obama talked about the practice they’re getting now on working with lawmakers on a difficult issue.” Practice? Talk about on-the-job training.
