House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) got an earful from a crowd of liberal supporters at a recent town hall event in Oakland, Calif. Apparently, they weren’t too happy with the recent debt-ceiling deal — the “Satan sandwich” — that Pelosi supported. “Sell out!” they cried. Pelosi attempted to defend her vote by explaining that the bill raised the debt ceiling and avoided default, which would have been a far worse outcome. This, however, did little assuage the crowd, who it seems would rather see the country implode financially than “the rich” go one more day without having their incomes sufficiently expropriated by the federal government. Because as one audience member boldly pointed out (via sign): “Taxes save lives.”
