Libya: A War of Choice and a Time for Leadership

President Obama has decided that America should go to war in Libya. This is a war of choice; he has chosen to take America to war. The president now must lead.

The goals are unmistakable: support humanitarian relief efforts, regime change, and the installation of a new government. The humanitarian relief efforts are self-evident. The need to remove Col. Qaddafi should be self-evident. A wounded Qaddafi still in power would be an ongoing threat and menace to the rest of the world. He must go, and President Obama and the coalition need to be thinking about what will happen once Qaddafi is gone.

Libya has been broken. It must be fixed. We should be under no illusions — to fix it will be hard and will take more than a few days!
