The Corner

Life is an allusion

It’s a shame Bush is a moron because everyone else these days is so goshdarn smart. If you want the history of the last eight years in one blog post, this cheery offering by Bock the Robber is hard to beat:

SADDAM KILLED NELSON MANDELA

Even I wouldn’t believe Bush could be this stupid if I hadn’t heard it for myself.

Here’s Dubya in his own words:

“I heard somebody say, Where’s Mandela?’ Well, Mandela’s dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas.”

A helpful commenter or two tries to pull the poor guy back from off the limb or at least take the chainsaw out of his hand:

If I said to you, “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” and then you replied, “Chickens? What do chickens have to do with this?” Who is the moron?

But Bock resents the implication that he’s got the wrong end of the stick. There are no sticks in his house, and, if there were, he’d be sure to hold them by the right end, whatever that is. So he scoffs at his disparagers, and sticks to his guns (even though he doesn’t own any). Bock responds:

I’m not quite clear if he means the video is a forgery.

Rumors of Nelson Mandela’s death have been greatly exaggerated, but evidently the concepts of simile, metaphor, analogy and figures of speech are all in the morgue.

PS I rather like this comment:

Also, John F. Kennedy is not a Berliner. He was born in Hyannisport, Massachusetts.

What a bunch of dummies, these presidents.
