The Bain/1999/felon attacks were clearly meant to distract from the last jobs report and worked brilliantly at the tactical level. They have consumed cable news and the op-ed pages. But it was never clear whether they could really overwhelm the underlying economic conditions. The new CBS/New York Times poll suggests they haven’t.
