Lipstick, Meet Pig

From today’s New York Times: “Despite the contraction in the first quarter, consumer spending and business investment suggested that the recovery remained resilient.”

I suppose that in some technical sense you can have a shrinking GDP and a “recovery” at the same time, but this seems to me an exercise in polishing . . . something that is difficult to polish.
