Lizzy Seeberg and Notre Dame

After a Department of Education investigation, a week ago today Notre Dame agreed to make some improvements in the wake of the suicide of St. Mary’s College student Elizabeth Seeberg, after she accused a Notre Dame football player of sexually assaulted her, then threatened by another.

Based on the press reports, the treatment of Seeberg’s parents has been abysmal by the administration, despite their continued love for the mission of Notre Dame.

During her life, Seeberg, was active in her local parish. There she helped raise money to support Christ the King Prep School on the West Side of Chicago, especially supportive of the Jesuit Alumni Volunteer Program there. Part of her legacy is to help house them – young people who commit to two years of volunteer service in inner-city Chicago. Across the street from Christ the King is now the Lizzy Seeberg Volunteer House, made possible by donations to a memorial fund in her name.

A cause worth supporting. Especially as it brings some good out of something that should not have happen.

Christ the King is an inspiring place:

As is the good the Seeberg family is doing in the wake of their pain.
