Meanwhile, Rick Perry will begin running TV ads in South Carolina starting tomorrow, reports Fox News. “The idea that one or two states is going to decide who the next nominee for the Republican Party is, is just, you know, that’s not reality,” Perry said in an interview on CNN today. He also took aim at Rick Santorum, calling him “the king of earmarks and pork barrel spending”and Mitt Romney, who he said “has got a real problem when it comes to consistency.”
But while Perry and Gingrich appear to be ready to sharpen their rhetoric, neither has indicated they will run TV attack ads against Romney. And that could make a big difference: Yahoo! News noted today that not a single attack ad centered on Mitt Romney exclusively had aired in Iowa, which could be a factor in his high poll numbers leading up to the caucus.
