Mark, as an NBA fan I can inform you that those “Los Suns” uniforms aren’t new. A lot of teams wear Spanish jerseys from time to time (“Los Mavs,” “El Heat”) as part of the Association’s outreach to Hispanics. (You also might have noticed the “éne-bé-a” court ads during the playoffs.) Now, I have no reason to doubt that the Phoenix players sincerely oppose the Arizona immigration law and that’s why they dusted off the Spanish jerseys, but it is also true that if they wanted to use the law opportunistically to advance one of the NBA’s longstanding goals, they would have done the same thing.
