Reading this item about race-based medications brought to mind a short story I read ca. 1970. I can’t remember the author or publication, so I’m hoping some Corner reader can help out. (My e-address is encrypted in the home page of my website.) The story is about a biology research lab somewhere in the U.S. The researchers are white Americans, except for one inscrutable but very brilliant Japanese guy. One of the researchers discovers by chance that some drug he is experimenting with kills only yellow mice. There’s a lot of politicking about how to take commercial advantage of this. The story ends with the Japanese guy, alone in his office, picking up the phone and calling his lab supplier to order a big batch of mice. White mice. Anyone know the story?
