From a reader:
The readers who are threatening to stay home on election day because of Bush’s “liberalism” are really missing the point. Am I troubled by Bush’s positions on the NEA, immigration, and the welfare state? You bet. He’s no Reagan in many respects. But in all the areas where we are bothered by Bush’s policy decisions, the Democrats would be far worse. And most importantly, issues like the NEA pale in comparison to the only important issue of our day — the war on terror. Choosing to pout over the NEA and spending increases and thereby allowing Democrats to take power and turn our security over to the French and Kofi Annan is just about the dumbest thing I’ve heard in a while. And this is saying a lot, since I’ve watched a few of Howard Dean’s recent speeches.
