A reader contributes her two-stotinki worth: “…As for Bulgaria, I’ve been

there (in 1997). Can’t say I would recommend the place, but it may have

improved since then. I will note that before my trip, I scouted around for

tourist information and found one site with the slogan: ‘Bulgaria, Why

Not?’ I have to give them credit for modesty.”

We have, of course, already had a political campaign in that style: the

1996 Republicans, which Mark Steyn has immortalized as the “Bob Dole –

Whatever” campaign.
