MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, who attended this week’s Supreme Court oral arguments on the Voting Rights Act, accused Justice Antonin Scalia of intentionally making controversial, racially charged comments from the bench just to anger and annoy critics and amuse himself. Appearing on The Daily Show on Thursday night, Maddow took issue with Scalia saying the Act is “a perpetuation of racial entitlement,” and then called him “a troll who loves to make people mad.”
“He’s like the guy in your blog comment thread who is using the N-word,” Maddow told host Jon Stewart. “‘How about if I say this? Did I make you mad? Did I make you mad? Did I make you mad?’ He’s like that.”
Maddow suggested Scalia knows his comments are contentious and makes them to shock the audience, and praised fellow justice Sonia Sotomayor for pushing back against him.
