I caught a news cable clip of Howard Lutnick bragging about the sort of everyday items that will be made in America again under Trump’s trade policies. The show’s hosts laughed at him when he said sneakers.
I’m not sure what they find funny. In fact, every item that Lutnick named is something that is, in fact, made in America, or at least mostly made here. Some New Balance sneakers are made here, even if some of the soles are imported. I fondly remember going to the factory store in Skowhegan, Maine, each summer to get some deals on these before school.
Many American entrepreneurs bring their patriotism into their passions and, in their investments, try to buy American components. Many of the most culturally American products are still made here. Baseball gloves by Nokona. Electric guitars by Rickenbacker. (Not to mention boutique makers like Benson, Milkman, or Novo) hi-fi audio components by Schiit. I’d love to ask the commenters, What are some of the made in America products you couldn’t live without?
