Democratic Rep. Dan Maffei, a Charlie Rangel protégé, just conceded in New York’s 25th congressional district, per a senior state GOP source. Maffei reportedly called Republican Ann Marie Buerkle this afternoon.

Today’s actions conclude a stunning sequence of events for Buerkle. Two weeks before the election, a poll showed her trailing by 12 percentage points. On Election Night, preliminary poll results — minus most of Wayne County — showed Maffei leading by 5,600 votes.
A day later, Wayne counted its votes, which put Buerkle up by 659 votes. That margin survived three weeks of inspecting voting machines and absentee ballots.
Since the Wayne County vote came in Nov. 3, Buerkle operated as if she had won. She attended meetings for freshmen congress members last week. She planned to take Maffei’s old office.
